Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of external radiotherapy that uses high-energy proton beams instead of photon x-ray beams or electrons. Carefully measured doses of protons are delivered to the precise area needing treatment, using the latest IBA ProteusONE technology. This ensures that the delivery of proton beam therapy is highly accurate and prevents the risk of radiation reaching surrounding healthy tissue.
Radiotherapy is used to kill and destroy cancer cells. Mr Nigel Parr is a Consultant Surgeon at Rutherford Cancer Centres North West. He was the first Urologist to be appointed to the Wirral University Teaching Hospitals in the North West of England over 28 years ago. He has wide-reaching experience across the field of urology. More recently, his areas of interest are treating prostate diseases, penile cancer, urinary tract infections and inflammation and infertility.
Mr Parr is a keen researcher and has been awarded multiple prizes. He set up the Mersey South and West Cheshire Prostate Cancer Support Group and remains in close contact with its members.
