Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of external radiotherapy that uses high-energy proton beams instead of photon x-ray beams or electrons. Carefully measured doses of protons are delivered to the precise area needing treatment, using the latest IBA ProteusONE technology. This ensures that the delivery of proton beam therapy is highly accurate and prevents the risk of radiation reaching surrounding healthy tissue.
Radiotherapy is used to kill and destroy cancer cells. It utilises radiation in the form of high-energy x-rays, known as photons, to kill and damage the cancerous cells and prevent their growth and reproduction. It can be used as a non-surgical option to treat cancer, and it can also be used to shrink a tumour or in combination with other treatments.
The Rutherford Cancer Centres and Elekta are bringing the next generation of personalised adaptive radiotherapy technology to oncology centres across the UK, with the new MR-linac Elekta Unity now available at the Rutherford Cancer Centre North West in Liverpool.

A full Bupa health check is a preventative measure that offers series of non-invasive tests to provide an overview of your health. This Bupa health screening also allows individuals to discuss any specific medical concerns with a health adviser. If you don’t get everything covered in your initial Bupa health assessment, we can organise further appointments or referrals for additional diagnostic tests or treatment.
Alongside the core Bupa health check, you’ll also receive ongoing support from Bupa with your long-term health goals in mind. If this sounds like it could benefit you, anyone is welcome to attend one of our Bupa health clinics - even those who aren’t existing members of Bupa.
Health anxiety is a genuine fear, and a visit to one of our Bupa health assessment centres may be just what you need to put your mind at ease. Bupa health assessments involve much more than a check-up; you’re provided with all the support and motivation you need to adapt your lifestyle. You can choose between six health assessments, some of which are tailored around age and gender.
Ahead of your assessment, you’ll be required to complete a physical/mental health questionnaire either online or via the Bupa Be.Me app. We have paper forms on offer for those who can’t access them virtually – you should arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment to complete this.
Additionally, you should ensure you drink plenty of water and avoid a heavy meal ahead of your appointment. We advise that you wear comfortable clothes in case you’re asked to do any stretches. You should always continue to take any medication you’re on, and please remember that we don’t accommodate under 18s.
You’ll receive an email before your appointment, which will detail what is to happen on the day and inform you of what you should bring. We’re able to take payment for your assessment card.
Once your assessment is complete, you’ll receive a personalised health and well-being report via the online portal. Similarly, you’ll have 12-month access to:
