Panthera Biopartners is an independent organisation run by a world-class team of experts, which finds patients and runs clinical trials on behalf of clinical research organisations and pharmaceutical companies across multiple therapeutic areas. Panthera Biopartners focuses on accelerating clinical breakthrough and ensuring the best experience and environment for volunteer patients in clinical research and trials.

The Rutherford Cancer Centres and Panthera Biopartners have come together to form a new partnership called Panthera@theRutherford. It is well known that organisations providing potential research opportunities for patients have improved patient outcomes. This collaboration ensures that our cancer patients have the chance to hear about and possibly participate in clinical research and trials which may be suitable for them.

Making a difference for cancer patients

Few people realise that all medication being prescribed or sold over the counter will have undergone rigorous testing for years before it is approved for use. Thousands upon thousands of volunteer patients all over the world have taken part in clinical research and trials, ultimately making a difference for patients everywhere.

By participating in clinical research and trials, volunteer patients provide a valuable contribution to the information that can be gathered on the safety and effectiveness of new treatments and medicines being tested. Volunteer patients choose to participate in clinical research and trials for many different reasons, often personal to them. They make a positive impact on the acceleration of new medications, which in turn benefits future generations and finding new effective treatments for all sorts of health conditions, including cancer.

Why get involved in clinical trials?

Clinical research and trials are an effective way of testing medications and devices to understand their benefits and effectiveness, as well as other aspects of a medication or treatment before public use.

They are vitally important to know how effective new treatments are when compared against existing treatments. Getting involved in clinical research and trials could potentially benefit individuals, but also future generations.

Panthera@theRutherford will ensure that our cancer patients have the potential opportunity to get involved with clinical research and trials and possibly benefit from improved health and quality of life. Volunteer patients will be contributing to medical research and the advancement of therapeutic interventions, ensuring that future generations receive the very best in medication, products, and devices.

If you’ve received a cancer diagnosis, it may be beneficial to take part in a clinical research or trial that aims to treat this. Giving you access to advanced medication or treatment, which ultimately could deliver better results.

Benefits of taking part in clinical trials

Volunteer patients often choose to participate in clinical trials and research for reasons that may be personal to them.

Some volunteer patients wish to take a more active role in their own healthcare or even that of their loved ones. Some may want to help advance medications and treatments for a specific type of condition, or some simply want to enable better medications and treatments for future generations.

Whatever motivates a volunteer patient to get involved, they will be supported throughout, ensuring they are aware of everything that’s happening at every step of the way, with an amazing team of clinical and non-clinical staff always on hand to provide first-class cancer care and personalised support.

All volunteer patients participating in a clinical research or trial will typically be provided with: regular routine health checks; specialist advice and support from the clinical team throughout; help with transport if required; and complimentary refreshments, hot and cold drinks as well as healthy snacks.
