Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of external radiotherapy that uses high-energy proton beams instead of photon x-ray beams or electrons. Carefully measured doses of protons are delivered to the precise area needing treatment, using the latest IBA ProteusONE technology. This ensures that the delivery of proton beam therapy is highly accurate and prevents the risk of radiation reaching surrounding healthy tissue.
Radiotherapy is used to kill and destroy cancer cells. It utilises radiation in the form of high-energy x-rays, known as photons, to kill and damage the cancerous cells and prevent their growth and reproduction. It can be used as a non-surgical option to treat cancer, and it can also be used to shrink a tumour or in combination with other treatments.
We provide a chemotherapy treatment service that offers you both choice and flexibility. Chemotherapy is the use of cytotoxic (anti-cancer) drugs to destroy cancer cells in the body by disrupting the cancer cells and preventing them from growing and dividing.
At Rutherford Cancer Centres, you are at the heart of our mission to transform cancer care. Your treatment plan is completely customised to your needs and concerns. Our supportive care staff will be available at any time, during and after your treatment has been delivered, and also provide access to supportive in-house therapies where required.
Your personalised treatment package is created and is bespoke to you and only you. Every patient that undergoes treatment in one of our Rutherford Cancer Centres has their own unique package. Even those receiving the same treatment type can end up with different package costs depending on the length and intensity of treatment required, and each individual's requirements.
Your treatment package cost will be fully outlined in your detailed treatment package letter; there are no hidden extras and costs are inclusive of your consultant fees.
Your treatment package will be based on an agreement with your insurer and payment will be made directly to us by your insurance company. To make things easier for you, we need the following details:
Our experienced administrative staff are here to help and advise you on authorisation before your treatment starts. Please contact us on 0800 210 0402 if you have any queries.
As your consultant works at our centres independently, they will submit their invoices separately, so you will need to forward these invoices to your insurer for payment.
If your care is not paid for by an insurer or covered by a treatment package, your care will be charged at the Rutherford Health plc standard rates. Your cancer specialist consultant will invoice you separately for your care.
The centre will give you an estimate of costs for your care and treatment. Please note: it is not always possible to give an exact estimate for the care you receive at the centre and the total cost may depend on several factors, including any other conditions you may have. The centre will always try to provide an accurate estimate and, if during your treatment, the costs look to exceed your original estimate, the centre will ensure you are notified in a timely manner.
We are aware that there are financial service providers who may be able to provide financial assistance in the form of personal loans to fund treatment. We have no partnership arrangements with any financial providers and are not responsible for vetting such providers. However, we can provide you with a link to a financial services provider who is aware of our services and can advise you on options for any personal loan services that you may wish to explore further;
Medifund, Medical treatment funding from SecurityTrust Finance.
Please note: it is entirely your responsibility to explore all options in respect of financial services and providers, and any arrangement you enter into is at your own risk and in accordance with their terms and conditions which you will need to accept. We receive no financial payment or other compensation for introductions we make.
If the NHS covers the full cost of your treatment, you will only need to pay for any additional personal items, the same as if you were being treated at an NHS hospital. With that in mind, you will need to provide a credit or debit card at your initial appointment to cover the costs of any sundry items.
If you are travelling to our centre from overseas, we will be happy to provide you with a personalised treatment package or an estimate for a self-pay price.
Please note: if you are travelling to us for treatment and you are currently outside of the EU, you will need to have adequate travel insurance. If you need to be treated at an NHS Hospital during any part of your treatment this will be charged to you directly and will not form any part of a personalised package of treatment or our self-pay price.
If you'd like to speak to us about any of the treatments we offer please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Call us on 0800 210 0402 or
